This is the beautiful panorama from the terrace of this bright, well-equipped apartment in the former village hotel. Bel Panorama is available to rent in the beautiful Tuscan hill top village of Fosdinovo.
The apartment has two double bedrooms, one with a king size bed, the other with 2 singles. Both have air conditioners. The newly refurbished bathroom has a double width shower. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, top loading automatic washing machine, microwave and electric cooker. For indoor entertainment there is a DVD player with a huge selection of discs, a very large library and WIFI.
The large terrace is equipped with table, chairs, loungers and a gas barbecue for easy outdoor dining. It has spectacular views over the sea and the islands of Capraia, Gorgona and, on a clear day, Elba.
Fosdinovo is situated in the Apuan hills, some 500 m above sea level and it enjoys a lovely climate, avoiding the high humidity of sea level resorts during the warm months. In the village you will find a Bank/ATM, a Post Office and two bars where you can buy daily necessities, including bread.
Fosdinovo has a long and interesting history. It is dominated by the Castello Malaspina to which Dante was exiled for a period. Its more recent history is examined at the nearby Museum of the Resistance which is well worth a visit. During the first weekend of July the village recreates its medieval past in a weekend long festival which is great fun.
The nearest beaches are 25 minutes away, at Marinella, Marina di Carrara and Lerici. Here you will find sandy beaches and both private and free public beaches. The neighbouring village of Castelnuovo Magra has a lovely swimming pool and restaurant which are both open to the public.
The fine cities of Lucca, Pisa and Pietrasanta are within an hour’s drive. Florence, Montecatini, Pistoia are a little further.
The outstandingly beautiful Cinque Terre and Portofino may be reached by boat – either from Lerici or Marina di Carrara 40 minutes away. Other worthwhile day trips may easily be made to the impressive marble caves around Carrara or to the serene lake at Gramolazzo where you can swim or hire a pedalo.
In the evenings a visit to the smart resorts of Forte dei Marmi or Viareggio or nearby Sarzana where there are concerts and fairs throughout the summer, to enjoy a drink or an ice cream is always very enjoyable. There are innumerable restaurants – some simple family spots and some more formal, but all serving lovely local dishes – within easy reach of Fosdinovo.
Weekly markets are held in Sarzana, Marina di Carrara and Forte dei Marmi.
