As promised I am writing about the Waterfield / Beevor event next Saturday evening and attaching the Flyer. Below, I’m also writing some details about the evening and transport up to the castle.
IMPORTANT: There will be a shuttle bus service running up and down to the castle from Piazza Gramsci (in front of Aulla town hall) starting at 7.30 p.m. As the road up there is very uneven and full of potholes, which are difficult to see at night time, I suggest you make use of this service. There is also a “shortcut” (on foot) up to the castle from the road just past where the old railway level-crossing was, on the road leaving Aulla in the direction of Fivizzano….. but I’m afraid I don’t know how well-lit it is at night. The pathway has been cleared and is an alternative for the fit!
There will be a couple of very short talks in Italian about the Duff Gordon / Waterfield /Beevor family and Aubrey Waterfield’s art, to be held in the “Belvedere” hanging garden. You will also be able to visit the exhibition (in English and Italian) on the first floor of the castle and the Mayor will be offering a small “rinfresco” to guests and visitors.
The event is a free event and is part of the “Serate Lunigianesi 2018” cycle of their summer cultural programme. Obviously we’d like to know how many people to expect as we need to have some sort of an idea of numbers……so could you please text me on my Italian mobile: 320 613 6611 to let me know if you will be coming.
Looking forward to seeing you,
PS There is a small car park up in the castle grounds before you actually get to the castle but there is no lighting. Then you would have to walk on foot as far as the castle. and would need a torch later on in the dark. If you want to use this, then I’m afraid you would have to get up there before the shuttle buses start going up and down the hill at 7.30 p.m. as it’s not possible to have two-way traffic with the buses.
