Fivizzano.
This medieval town of only 10,000 inhabitants has it all; style, character,
warm hospitable people, good restaurants, an international music festival ..
and tango! Yes, tango!
Fivizzano was a wealthy town in medieval times and an important strategic
centre when the fortress at Verrucola controlled the surrounding area. The
town was also for a long time under the influence of Florence, to which it
owes much of its style and character. Today Fivizzano combines a respect for
the past with a thriving social and cultural life with many of the town's events
taking place in the central Medici square in front of the XIV century church
of Saints Jacopo and Antonio.
Usually opening on the last Friday in August and running until the first Sunday
in September the International Music Festival features performances ranging
from solo guitar recitals to urban dance, from small ensemble modern music
to folk groups. This event is deservedly growing in popularity and reputation
and is a must for all lovers of the performing arts.
Tango World is an exuberant celebration of this most passionate of dances.
Running from the 7th to the 12th of September 2004 this is your chance to not
only see some of the best tango dancers in the world, but to learn to tango
yourself! Previous festivals have featured the most famous dancers in the world:
