Swimming

Quite apart from sea-bathing this area offers many opportunities for swimming both in good public swimming pools and in safe river pools. River bathing is popular in some areas particularly around Licciana, Bagnone and Pontremoli (for example at Guinadi).

There are swimming pools at Villafranca (Olympic size set in wooded grounds). There is also a smaller pool and tennis courts, a snack bar and pizzeria. Cormezzano, between Aulla and Fivizzano just past the Gassano turn has a pool with water chutes. There are also swimming pools at Lerici and Equi Terme (sulphur baths).

Villafranca

There is an Olympic size swimming pool at Villafranca set in wooded grounds. There is also a smaller children's pool and tennis courts, a snack bar and pizzeria. Open during high season (June to September). Your ticket lasts all day so you can come and go as you please and you can picnic there. Tel. No 0187 493112

Cormezzano

Between Aulla and Fivizzano, there is a complex of two public outdoor swimming pools, which can be seen from the road (main pool has a water-shute). It is about 10 Kms from Aulla. Tel. No 0585 99300

Quercia - Palazzetto dello Sport

Close to Aulla is the sports complex of La Quercia where there is also an indoor swimming pool. Take the road out of Aulla towards Fivizzano, after approx lkm there is a turning on the left signposted 'minigolf', turn here and follow signs to Quercia (minigolf). This complex is open from 12.00 am to 22.00 pm (Mondays to Fridays) and from 12.00 am to 20.00 pm (on Saturdays). Please check locally for summer activities. Tel. No 0187 471338

Lerici

Take the little lane going inland from Venere Azzurra. There is a pool and parking at the end of the lane. Please check locally for opening times and current prices to pool.

Equi Terme

At the famous Equi Terme (meaning Thermal Waters) spa there is a public pool and small children's pool with natural health-giving sulphur-rich waters. The treatment centre offers massage and a range of curative treatments. 120 litres of sulphurous water per second flow through the spa creating a thermal resort renowned since ancient times. Equi Terme thermal resort has now been re-opened and offers many different treatments and a wonderful outdoor bathing pool.
